About Coimbatore Railway Station

Coimbatore Junction is also called as a Coimbatore Main station. It is the primary railway station serving by the people in and around Coimbatore. The Coimbatore Main Railway Station is located in State Bank Road, Near Collector’s office, Coimbatore. The Coimbatore Railway Junction has been owned by the Indian Railways. It’s totally having six platforms and twenty tracks. We can reach the Railway station by the mode of transportations like Bus, Taxi and Auto. The Coimbatore Train service has been started in the year of 1861. The Construction of this Railway station connects the kerala and west coast of India. Until 1956, Podanur is considered as a headquarters of the Coimbatore Railway Division. After that the Headquarters has been changed to Olavakkod Railway Division.


In 1980, Olavakkod Railway division has renamed as Palakkad railway division. It constitutes kerala and western districts of Tamilnadu. The Revenue from the Coimbatore Railway Station is less to develop the Railway stations in kerala. Due to this protest, The Tamilnadu has decided to form the new Railway Station with Coimbatore as its Headquarters. The Coimbatore Railway station is the second - largest income generating Station in the Zone of the Southern Railway. Coimbatore North Junction, Podanur Junction has been considered as a Big Railway Station and Peelamedu, Singanallur, Irugur Junction, Periyanaicken Palayam, Thudiyalur, Madukkarai, Somanur and Sulur has been considered as a small Railway stations.
